Shane Filan in Manila

Being a '90s kid myself, I cannot deny the memories I have had with boybands. Yes, boybands were definitely everybody's favorite during my days in high school (early 2000's). Girls scream for charming guys who sing while doing entertaining dance routines, and boys also do love to sing and pretend like they're part of a famous singing male group.

Of all the boybands that conquered the music charts, the Irish group Westlife, is one of my personal favorites. In fact, I have original copies of all their albums - special thanks to my best friend who also loves the group, he always buys me one and gives it to me as a gift. Also, Westlife's "Swear It Again" is the song I first sang onstage during a school program.

Among the members of the group, it was of course their lead vocalist, Shane Filan, who I admire the most. I can still clearly remember when my schoolmates used to tell me that I sound like him whenever I sing Westlife's songs. With this, whether they were just fooling around with me or not, I still continued to sing like Shane and continued to sing Westlife's hits whenever I was asked to perform in public. =)

Westlife had been in Manila previously for their concerts for four times already, but unfortunately, being a student who lives far from the metro, I was unable to watch any of these shows.

Still dashing Shane Filan

Sadly, Westlife already held their final Farewell Tour in June last year at the Croke Park Dublin. It was very heartfelt and successful though it was definitely heartbreaking for all the solid Westlife fans around the globe. Members of one of the world's most sensational and Guinness record-holder boyband had finally decided to part ways.

Years after the phenomenal boyband fever, I was lucky enough to get the chance to meet Westlife's front man, Shane Filan, as he returned to the Philippines, this time as a solo artist. It was Shane's first time in Manila without his bandmates Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Brian McFadden (who left the group in 2004). It was somewhat a dream come true for me to get up-close with one of my favorite singers and even watch him perform live.

Sharing his love for music is Shane's passion, and he's determined to continue sharing to the world this talent and passion that he has. Though he's still trying to shake off his fear of going solo, Shane believes that he is ready to get used to do it on his own.

Shane is currently on a world tour for his first solo album, Everything to Me. His album is basically his way of thanking his supporters worldwide.

Touring the world alone scared Shane as well, expecting that it wouldn't be that hyped as his previous world tours, but he overcomes this fear when he thinks of his family. His album tells a lot about him being a family man who has unconditional love for his wife and his three children. His family is Shane's greatest inspiration. Shane wrote all the songs in his EP album, and these songs made it very obvious that Shane loves his family so much. Shane said he would like people to relate to his songs in a happy way, a positive way because it is about life, about being happy and healthy.

Shane understands that it would take time before people will get used to the idea that he's on his own now, and that his music is different from the ones he performed with Westlife. But with his strong faith and unquestionable love for music, and with that really soothing voice and loyal fans, Shane will definitely make a good career path as a solo artist.

And amazingly, for his Philippine tour, Shane sent his Filipino fans into an online frenzy as slots for the VVIP Bundle of his promo tour were sold out in less than two hours after the announcement. The bundle included Exclusive Access to a Fan Meet Party plus a limited edition poster, Everything to Me Extended Play CD and a VVIP Section Pass to the showcase. Devastated fans lashed out on Twitter desperately trying to secure a chance for an up-close and personal encounter with Shane.

The dashing Shane Filan had his very successful Philippine Promo Tour last September 28 at the Skydome and September 29 at The Podium to promote his brand new EP "Everything to Me" exclusively distributed under MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines). He was also seen in Sunday All Stars in GMA7 and at The Voice of the Philippines Grand Finale in ABS-CBN. With the overwhelming screams and admiration from the Filipino fans, Shane promised to be back in the Philippines next year!

His tour has been presented by MCA Music, SMART Music, Skydome, The Podium, SM Megamall and Astroplus/Astrovision, in cooperation with media partners: MYX Music Channel, MOR 101.9 For Life, Business World. HerWord.com, Most Wanted Hits, Manila Concert Scene, Philippine Concerts, LionhearTV and LINE.
