Growing up to his father's collection of Elvis Presley, Paul Anka and Neil Sedaka, music has always been a part of Mitoy Yonting's life. Singing along to his father's favorite albums honed his interest in singing. But Mitoy grew up not just a singer. He was also born to entertain and snap jokes. He makes use of his funny side and wide vocal range to wow audiences from his hometown, Pangasinan. With this incredible singing talent that he has, he eventually formed the band Draybers and started playing gigs all over the country.
Through his hard work and undeniable talent, people noticed his unique voice. He joined several TV contests and landed roles on different comedy shows like H30 Ha Ha Ha Over with Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Gladys Guevarra. He also became popular in Eat Bulaga along with the character Chuchay (played by Gladys Guevarra). His tandem with Gladys became an instant hit and further showcased Mitoy's comedic timing and appeal. That early, he was driven to do all sorts of jobs while doing gigs to provide for his family.
Then he was called to audition for the first season of the reality show, The Voice of the Philippines. He was hesitant at first because of his age, even if he was convinced and encouraged by his friends. But since he realized that his earnings is not enough to provide his family a better life, he finally decided to join the reality show.
He impressed everyone in his audition and he has chosen Lea Salonga to be his coach. The world-renowned coach was truly amazed with Mitoy's voice and talent and has nothing but praises about him. Mitoy never expected to win as he expected that the younger contestants would emerge. It was a tough competition, but his old and new fans rallied behind him in every step of the way.
Winning the competition made him fulfill one of his biggest dreams, which is getting signed by a major label. MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) finally released his debut album "Hanggang Wakas" featuring his carrier single, "Paikot-ikot." His album also includes songs that he himself composed and a duet with his Tony Award-winner coach, Lea Salonga. Aside from these, the album also incorporates a medley of Air Supply hits and revivals including his favorite "Handog," which he considers as an ode to his incredible life.
Mitoy continues to connect and amaze more audiences worldwide through his songs and his story. As wide as his vocal range, his future promises even broader possibilities for him. With a voice as powerful and interesting as his, everyone awaits his next move.
As the country's first-ever The Voice of the Philippines, Mitoy Yonting is indeed emerging as a powerful vocalist. His voice brought him places but his perseverance and faith took him farther than he'd ever hoped for.
"Hanggang Wakas" is now out under MCA Music and is available in CDs at Astroplus and Odyssey outlets nationwide. Digital downloads are also available via Spinner.ph and iTunes, and can also be streamed via Deezer and Spotify.
