Piolo Pascual and Rhian Ramos in Silong

A romantic thriller featuring the first-ever pairing of two of the country’s most popular stars has made its world premiere as the closing film of this year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
Silong (English title: Shelter) stars Piolo Pascual and Rhian Ramos, two beloved celebrities that have built careers in rival stations, ABS-CBN and GMA, finally get to work together in this independent film produced by SQ Film Laboratories and Black Maria Pictures.

Piolo plays Miguel, a doctor still mourning the death of his wife Caroline, while he scrambles to save his family home from creditors. As he drives home one day, he finds a badly beaten and bloody Valerie, played by Rhian, on a deserted country road and takes her home to nurse her back to health. They soon walk the fine line between love and loneliness and between trust and caution.

Even coming from rival stations, Rhian and Piolo got along right away during their first day of shooting. For the love of what they do, for the sake of art and respect for their craft, they both agreed to do the daring scenes. While Rhian finds Piolo a real gentleman, Piolo describes Rhian as one of the easiest leading ladies to work with. Their good relationship behind the camera has greatly helped them to make their team-up work in the film, especially since this is Piolo's first ever suspense-thriller film, and the film also features Rhian's first love scene.

Piolo, as one of the film's producers also exclaimed how excited he is collaborating with young directors because these new directors are very open and fresh and have so many creative ideas, and understands that as long as you both have good vision, your project will always end up good.

The film also stars Guji Lorenzana, Miguel’s confidante and the brother of his deceased wife, Caroline, played by Angel Jacob, as well as theater actor Raymund Concepcion.

After watching the movie, I would definitely suggest these to my friends who love romance and thriller. The scenes are very intense physically and emotionally and are very demanding. There are a lot of things happening in the movie, which are all connected. You'll be surprised at every scene, especially in the last parts.

Silong is directed by singer and actor Jeffrey Hidalgo in his directorial debut, and screenwriter Roy Sevilla Ho, who also wrote the screenplay for this film. The film is produced by Black Maria Pictures’ Angelo Santos and Piolo Pascual, and will be out commercially on cinemas on September 16, 2015.
